From Valentine's Week

Not much to say here, but I'll just point out Micah's spiffy undershirt.

"It's-a-me, Micah-o!"

He's getting better at rolling, but sometimes Micah runs out of room!

Gatlinburg/ Retreat Weekend

This past weekend, Karin and I went to a "couples retreat" in Pigeon Forge, TN, with our church, Friendship Baptist. Karin's parents, David and Jane, attended as well, and though the time there didn't seem like it was long enough, we all enjoyed ourselves. Karin and I would have stayed another day if we didn't need to get back to tend to Belle and the puppies. One of the kids in our church was house sitting for us this past weekend (thanks, Nick!)

Micah hanging with his Nana Claar.

The theme of the weekend was an old West theme, so we had a photo both with the above theme. Karin and Jane found some little boots and a hat among the table decorations, so we just had to try them out.

During our free time, we went to Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg, TN. We were looking forward to seeing Micah's reactions to the sights there. He is only four+ months old, so I didn't really know what to expect. When he did finally wake up from his nap about half-way through the shark tunnel, I was thrilled to see that he did seem to be enjoying all of the lights and movement in the tanks. Naturally, he payed more attention to the brightly-colored fish in the Coral Reef area.

Yee-haw!

Granparents visit 1/29

These are a bit late, but I thought I would post a few pictures from my parents' visit a few weeks ago.

Is this the world's most giant baby? :)

Micah decides to join the navy. It wasn't a long commitment, though. The next week he was in the U.S. "Bear" Force.

If

This is one of my favorite poems by Rudyard Kipling. I've been thinking a lot about it since we had Micah.

[IF]

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

Safari Adventure

While driving through the jungle, Micah encounters a wild lion!

Sunday Drive

Today, we put Micah in his "exersaucer" for the first time. Apparently, he really likes it!

We both think that he enjoys it because it allows him to sit up and look at everything without being as constrained as he might be in his swing.

So, here is more video for your viewing pleasure.

Dinner Time!

Micah ate cereal for the first time yesterday! He took to it better than we expected.
Unfortunately, he didn't do as well as this on the second day, as he was wearing most of his cereal on his bib. Heh. We shall persevere!

Long-delayed picture updates

So, I've heard that I haven't been updating the blog with pictures in a while, so, in an effort to please, I've been trying to catch up on some much-needed updates. This weekend, I'll be working to update our photo album (see link to the right), to make pictures easier to share.

In the last month, Micah has reached that really "fun stage" that I've heard so much about from new parents. He started smiling in November, and he began to laugh sometime just before Christmas. Now he smiles, giggles, coos, and squeals with glee almost all the time. He rolled over for the first time in January, and he's also begun to find his feet and his ears.

Karin and I couldn't have asked for a better kid. He's been much more fun than I ever imagined.

Joyful Noise

Lately, Micah has taken to "finding his voice." He's toned it down, but for a week or two there he was doing it all the time. We think it's kind of funny, but don't click if you can't stand high-pitched kid noise.

Super Baby!

Well, I finally learned how to capture video from our camera in order to provide some clips on the blog. I hope you enjoy them!

3 1/2 Months!

Here are some pictures of the best looking boy ever!!!! He has just recently found his feet as seen in the pictures.

More of Belle

Hey there,

I thought that I would post a couple more pictures of Belle's adorable little puppies. I also saw that we haven't posted any pictures of Micah lately so I thought that I would post some of those as well. He has really changed and every day there is something new that he does to make me laugh. God is so good.

Belle's First Litter!

First of all, let me apologize for not keeping the blog up to date. I'll be updating it more often in the next few weeks with pics, and, hopefully, some short video.

In other news...Karin and I were both surprised by the arrival of Belle's puppies today. They came a few days earlier than expected. I have to admit, when I started reading about whelping the puppies, I got a little concerned. Some resources talked about all the things that could go wrong and indicated that we'd probably have to aid the puppies' breathing after birth, among other things. Well, Belle must be a great mom, because she seemed like an old pro. I guess I just shouldn't be surprised...God designed it, and dogs have been having puppies for a few thousand years now. As usual, I just had to get out of the way.

Right now mom and babies are still taking a well-deserved rest. I've posted a few pictures below. If you want to see more, just click the link to our photo album located on the right side of the page.
